OUR STORY
Nō mātou te whiwhi, nō mātou te hōnore —
It is our privilege and honour to carry forward the legacy of St Joseph’s Māori Girls’ College.
We are wāhine Māori, united by our shared experiences at kura. From Aotearoa to the wider world, our members continue to embody the values instilled in us — manaakitanga, aroha, faith, discipline, and excellence.
As past pupils, we are wāhine who have walked the halls of our kura, lifted our voices in waiata, prayed together in faith, and embraced the spirit of whanaungatanga that has shaped generations.
Our school years may be behind us, but the bonds we forged endure for life.
WHO WE ARE
-
The SJMGC Old Girls’ (Past Pupils) Association and SJMGC Foundation (in formation) work together in a hybrid Alumni model
-
The Association provides the alumni voice and grassroots connection, making it best suited for membership and community engagement, governed by an elected committee. The Association also works in partnership with the College and Hostel, strengthening the link between past pupils and the wider kura community
-
The Foundation will serve as the financial steward, the umbrella for fundraising, grants, and bequests, with trustees appointed under a trust deed. As a registered charity, it offers stronger recognition for donations and tax-deductible giving
-
Together, this hybrid model ensures we work smarter and more efficiently, balancing community engagement with sustainable financial stewardship and safeguarding the kura’s future
OUR VISION & GOALS
-
To create opportunities for networking, mentoring, and support among past pupils.
-
To provide a platform for giving back — through scholarships, donations, volunteering, and cultural contributions.
-
To raise funds to maintain and strengthen our College facilities, while investing in new projects that will secure the kura’s sustainability and vitality.
-
To preserve and celebrate our kura’s unique spiritual and cultural legacy, ensuring it continues to thrive.
-
To hold hui and reunions where stories are shared, laughter is heard, and our bonds are renewed.
WHAT WE STAND FOR
-
Whanaungatanga | Connection
Building and sustaining lifelong connections among past pupils, so no matter where we are in the world, we remain one whānau.
-
Manaakitanga | Care and Support
Supporting each other as wāhine, mothers, aunties, leaders, and professionals. Together, we uplift our sisters in times of need and celebrate in times of joy.
-
Kotahitanga | Unity
Strengthening the ties between past pupils, the kura, and future generations. Our unity ensures our collective voice remains strong and enduring.
WHY WE EXIST
-
Our kura gave us more than an education — it gifted us values, friendships, and a sense of belonging that endures for life. We honour that gift. We are the living legacy of Hato Hohepa, carrying our college pride into our families, workplaces, and communities
-
-
Together, we ensure the spirit of Hato Hohepa continues to inspire the next generation of Māori kōhine leaders
-
-
We are committed to nurturing lifelong bonds, celebrating our heritage, and giving back to the kura that shaped us.
